"Take young researchers, put them together in virtual seclusion, give them an unprecedented degree of freedom and turn up the pressure by fostering competitiveness" ~James D. Watson Bioclues is a non-profit organization Of, By, and For the Bioinformaticians in India. It aims at bringing together research scientists interested in Bioinformatics, the inter- and multi- disciplinary science to understand biological systems at the molecular and cellular level using informatics and computational algorithms, approaches, and models. The principal goals and driving force for Biolcues are to study, develop and spread Bioinformatics in a scientific, academic, technologic and industrial environment in India. The organization has predominantly members from India and many others across 40 countries. Bioclues Organization was recognized by Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBionet.org) in 2008, a regional affiliate of International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB). Bioclues works on four avenues: Mentoring-Outreach-Research-Entrepreneurship (MORE). Get registered and be part of Bioclues and participate in the pursuits to search for clues in biology. |

Nominations are invited for the inaugural BIRD annual award for outstanding contributions in the area of Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics. This award is meant not just for academicians but also for scientists who have shown exemplary excellence in the field of Bioinformatics. While scientists who have been working for not-for-profit organizations will be given importance, the ones who are working for commercial organizations are no less exception if the research they have carried out has been widely honoured and have made long-standing contributions. The 2011 BIRD award was given to Dr. Pugalenthi Ganesan from Dr. Sowdhamini's lab in Bangalore. Pugalenthi was chosen among several young scientists screened and nominated across India. Pugalenthi, now working in Saudi Arabia as a Research Scientist has over 32 publications to his credit. A special mention and recognition was given to Sarwar Azam, scientist of ICRISAT for their breakthrough work on Pigeonpea genome. |
